This building was built in the early 1900’s, and was called 'Jakes Place' in the beginning. It was a pool hall, bar and sandwich shop all rolled into one. It stayed that way for many years until it was divided into two shops in which The Smackover Journal was established. The other half of the place was turned into a hair salon.
