The historic James Black Blacksmith Shop in Old Washington, Arkansas was replicated on the exact spot of the original shop in 1960. Historic documents were used to rebuild this shop. James Black is the man credited with making the famed Bowie Knife. It was built in this shop in the early 1830’s. Jim Bowie made frequent visits to the shop while the knife was being crafted. Today this blacksmith shop is a working shop. Knife making artisans hold knife making classes on a regular basis where they teach the basics of metallurgy and blacksmithing techniques.
