Phenomena captured on film: During this investigation, we found enough scientific evidence to say the Arkansas State Capital is haunted. It was a very clean and dust free building. We photographed some orbs of interest but only a few of the orbs captured on a digital photo fit our criteria of being energy orbs. To be an energy orb they must be very close to round in shape, dense in nature and show motion. One of our better pictures was captured in the basement. It was that of a shadow spirit. The investigator had been in the basement for a short period of time when she captured this figure. There were no lights on in the area and she was alone. We tried to duplicate the picture several different ways but could not reproduce the shadow. The other picture of particular interest was taken on the third floor on the north end of the building. There were four investigators present when one of the EMF meters began to register high readings. An EMF meter reads magnetic frequency produced by electricity. It is thought that spirits produce energy when they try to materialize. I joined the group and my EMF meter started spiking as well. The digital thermometers were registering radical temperature swings. This also is an indication that a spirit is present. To make sure that we were in the presence of a spirit, we started eliminating other possible causes. There were no electrical outlets of any kind in the vicinity and all light fixtures were twenty feet above us. One of the investigators started taking pictures and got one that showed a dark object that obscured the face of another investigator.

While attempting to gather EVP (electronic voice phenomenon), a voice could be heard Answering the question, “Can you tell me your name?” The disembodied voice answered, “Edward.” We had heard the story of a haunted elevator at the State Capital. During our research we found that a State Senator had died in the Capital by being crushed by one of the elevators in 1932. We wanted to test all of the elevators so some of the investigators rode them all. The freight elevator seemed to have a mind of its own. We understand that sometimes machinery can have maintenance issues, so we are not claiming the elevator is haunted, but very frustrating to ride. The one EVP that centers on this elevator was captured when the freight elevator took the investigators for their ride. It dropped three floors quickly and startled them so much that they yelled for help. While they were hollering, I was in the Rotunda on the 1st floor recording on my voice recorder. Although not audible at the time, there is a voice that can be heard grunting or growling as if disturbed. This was a very interesting investigation.

Summation: Due to the fact that the investigation was such a large area we could not cover the whole building. A group of nine investigators was used on this investigation. The team psychic (Angie) was inserted into the building at 8 pm with spirit sensitives John and Christina. They were allowed to do their walk through independently while the others set up equipment and got ready to go to work. Upon completion of their psychic evaluation they were extracted to be interviewed by me individually. While they were being interviewed the others went around the building taking pictures and various climatic readings. During the interview both Angie and Christina said they felt the presence of a man and a woman. Angie got the names Edward and Alyssa. Later while recording EVP, we picked up the name "Edward."

Conclusion: Is the Arkansas State Capital haunted? We have a grading system that helps us to answer such questions. We graded the evidence as follows: scientific evidence consisting of photos, video, EMF readings, temperature readings and EVP. On a scale of 0 – 50 we gave the scientific evidence gathered a 40. The evidence was there and it was fairly strong. Sensory evidence is that of the human five senses and on a scale of 0 – 25 we gave the sensory evidence a 15 because of the sightings and feelings of not being alone. The extra sensory evidence is the feelings of the psychic and sensitive. On a scale of 0 – 25 we gave the extra sensory evidence a 15. Both the psychic and spirit sensitive felt the presence of a man and a woman. The psychic said she got the name "Edward" from her impressions. Normally this would rate lower, but because we also recorded a voice say his name was Edward, the psychic impression is validated. The grand total for this project is 70. The grading system of all evidence gathered tells us that there is a strong possibility that there is paranormal activity happening in the dark recesses of the Arkansas State Capital.
